THE UGWUMBA WOMEN ACADEMY

The Ugwumba Women Academy Network is a program of the Ugwumba Leadership Center, which was launched in 2020 with a mission to empower women across the African continent with both leadership and enterprise development skills.

The major targets for this academy are women professionals, women entrepreneurs, women in politics, traders, farmers, artisans, etc.

The Academy is being administered by women themselves at various levels, including National, Regional and State Levels.

Our Programs

U-Fund for Women

This is our microgrants program targeted at petty traders in the rural areas, who are struggling to grow their small businesses and to take care of their families.

Ugwumba Women Conference

Through this project, we hope to raise more leadership-conscious women who shall contest for leadership positions in Government and in the private sector, in support of the UN’s Affirmative Action;

Ugwumba Women in Technology Challenge

This is a startup challenge, exclusively designed for young women who are growing tech startups.

Projects implemented under this academy, include

This is our microgrants program targeted at petty traders in the rural areas, who are struggling to grow their small businesses and to take care of their families. This initiative was unveiled by Her Excellency, Dr. Kema Chikwe, former Nigerian Ambassador and Minister of Aviation in 2022. Since inception, over 1,000 women in the rural areas have been impacted with our microgrants.
In 2023, we adopted the Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria into this program. As women who are suffering stigmatization, as a result of their health statuses, they are economically disadvantaged, so we support them with our small grants and training in order to improve their livelihoods.

This is a startup challenge, exclusively designed for young women who are growing tech startups.

This is our annual conference in commemoration of the annual International Women’s Day.
